For our final blog post, consider our reading of The Hobbit and our discussion of heroes and Joseph Campbell's stages of the Hero's Journey to create an heroic short story of your own. Your story can be in any genre (fantasy, science fiction, action/adventure, romance, drama, etc.) but must concern one or more heroes as they face trials and ultimately reach a goal. Use heroes that you have created or use a heroic character you already know of to write your story. There must be an objective to the hero's journey.
Your posts are to be at least 400 words and are due by Friday, 5/31/13.
Master Sergeant Gary I. Gordon and Sergeant First Class Randall D. Shughart were two snipers for the United States Army's Delta Force, an elite unit in our nations military similar to Navy SEAL’s. These men won the medal of honor in Mogadishu, Somalia for their acts of valor.
ReplyDeleteIn Mogadishu there was the famous “Black Hawk Down” incident. Pilot Michael Durant was shot down while performing peacekeeping duties in the country of Somalia due to their civil war. Durant was held captive for eleven days by local militia. U.S. Army Rangers and Delta Force were sent in to extract the downed pilot.
Almost as soon as the soldiers landed they came under fire by the locals. Afterwards when the fighting stopped the regrouped and set out for the pilot. In the process another helicopter went down. The two snipers went to rescue the second downed helicopter crew. When they got there the pilot was severely injured. When the local militia found out about the second helicopter they moved to the crash site.
The two snipers were trying to get the pilot out as quickly as possible when the locals had arrived. Gordon and Shughart, along with another crew member who was stuck due to a broken leg, chose to stay to protect the pilot while he got away from the area. These men knew that the odds were definitely not in their favor with the two of them versus the hundred or so locals. They knew what had to happen. They would give their lives to make sure the pilot made it out safe.
Both armed with sniper rifles and pistols the two men held up against the opposing locals armed with automatic rifles and rocket propelled grenades (RPG’s). After exhausting the ammo in his rifle Sergeant Gordon went to the helicopter to recover more ammunition for him and Sergeant Shughart. Although they were both low on ammo they gave some to one of the other downed crew members.
Sergeant Shughart was mortally wounded from enemy fire but still kept on fighting. He later took two more rounds and died. Gordon went back to the helicopter and the crew member, gathered more ammunition, gave some to the crew member saying “Good Luck”. Armed with only his pistol.
After using all of their ammo, the Gordon and the crew member died. They fought back countless numbers of the locals and saved the pilot’s life. This is what makes them heroes.
Black hawk down was a very good movie and I think those men were very brave and earned their Medal of honor.

ReplyDeleteOne day in the little town of deposit there was a government experiment going on two children were taken from their family and they were two small children named Alex Hess and Jon hollen and what they didn’t know is that they were destined for greatness, Alex to be Hercules and Jon to be hulk. As Alex and Jon grow they notice odd things about their selves like Alex grew huge muscles and Jon started to get a slight green tint. As Jon and Alex meet in school they know there is something they don’t like about each other so they stay away. But the teacher ends up putting their desks right next to each other’s. So every day they sit there and give nasty glares at each other but Jons is quite a bit scarier. Throughout school they always hated each other so finally Jon challenged Alex after school. Alex accepted. Alex went and waited Jon was a no show. The next day in school Alex was calling Jon a chicken so Jon went full out hulk and hit Alex. After that Alex went full out Hercules and even farther he went super sayan and crushed Jon. And then Yoshi appears out of nowhere to help Jon there team was the green. To fight Yoshi ghost rider rode his motorcycle into battle and team with Alex. May I also mention ghost rider is Devin because the radiation leaked out of the experiment? Devin and alexes team is the strong. Devin and Alex like each other very much but overall they have the hatred burning in them toward Jon. So Devin goes and attacks Yoshi in ghost rider form and tries to steal his soul, but what Devin doesn't know is that Yoshi is a video game character and has no soul and Yoshi does his little tongue thing and eats Devin. So now it is Jon and Yoshi vs. a super sayan Hercules. So Alex goes and stats smashing stuff his smash is stronger than hulks smash. Hulk looks so weak and puny compared to the super sayan Hercules. So Alex smashes Jon easily and Yoshi fly’s away to get advice from sonic. Sonic just tells him to run around Alex will get really dizzy and fall. So Yoshi does it Alex fall and crushes Yoshi now Alex is done and Yoshi is also done and out for the count.at the end they just throw all there body’s in the ocean with weights to sink to the bottom and the evidence of the government experiment was never found. Plus the small town was rebuilt.

This is the story of a girl, Ironnail and her arch nemesis the Evil Rem-Bone Doty.
ReplyDeleteFar far away, in the lands of Yugoslavia a baby girl was found in a ditch after a hurricane. No one knows quite how she got there, or where she’s from, but little did they know she would become Ironnail. Ironnail was a rebellious young gal, all of the villagers thought she was the devil’s spawn, because children would go missing when she was around. To Ironnail’s and the villagers surprise, she had a poisonous finger! Now this wasn't your typical poisonous finger that just shoots out puss. Ironnails finger could turn anyone to stone. This little tidbit will come in handy in the future of this story.
One evening in Yugoslavia, Ironnail was bathing in a bucket. When all of a sudden, the Evil Rem-Bone came trotting down the path. She was a short nasty little girl, who hated everyone except her duck, Mr. Quackers. The Evil Rem-Bone, wanted to take over Yugoslavia and burn down the houses to build a lake for her ducks. Ironnail had only heard rumors about The Evil Rem-Bone, but when she saw her trotting towards Yugoslavia some kind of hatred formed in her tiny black nail.
Immediately the Evil Rem-Bone went to work. She used Mr. Quackers to insert fear into the town folk, and she got them to pour gasoline thru their houses. Right when she was about to strike the match.... DA DA DAAAAAAAAAAAAAH Ironnail ran out from behind the bushes, where she had been hiding, and said with a roar, “YOU’LL BURN DOWN THIS VILLAGE OVER MY CLIPPED NAIL!” The Evil Rem-Bone wittily responded, “well let me grab my clippers, MUAHAHAHA,” and the battle began.
Neither of them had much experience with battling to the death, so when Ironnail pounced on Rem-Bone, the box of matches flew through the air, and set the whole place on fire. Ironnail and Rem-Bone tumbled back and forth, slapping and biting each other. Ironnail felt a sharp pain in her backside, and sure enough, it was Mr. Quackers. Ironnail quickly pointed her finger towards the dinosaur duck, and he turned right to stone. The Evil Rem-Bone was so distracted from losing her best friend in the whole world, that Ironnail escaped her gorilla arms, and held her at nail point. “Any last words, Rem-Bone?” Said Ironnail. Before she could answer Ironnail turned her to stone. Ironnail might have been a hero, but she really despised Rem-Bone.
Even though their village was burnt to a crisp, the Yugoslavians crowded around Ironnail, praising her. All Ironnail had to say was, “I definitely nailed that one!”

ReplyDeleteOnce upon a time there was three very golden alpacas and they lived in this little valley called It was called golden Chupacabra valley. Because the leader of the alpacas was a golden Chupacabra he was a very fat Chupacabra. And at first he was a very good leader but then he started getting corrupted and the alpacas had to do something about it. So the three alpacas Connor Devon and Devin made a plan to kill the Chupacabra and take over the thrown of the valley. So that’s what they did they killed the Chupacabra and eat him for brunch. But then they all decided to split the power and divide their valley up. So Connor took the low valley, Devon took the high valley and Devon got the cesspool. Connor and Devon were greedy and wanted more power. Devin was happy with his cesspool and now smells like one to this day. But Devon and Connor went to war and it turned out to be a bad one Devon was running out of supplies and asked Devin for help and Devin said sure but only if I have most of the land you get and Devon hated Connor so bad that he accepted. Connor was starting to lose and he hated losing, so he had to ask Devin for help and Devin said sure as long as I have most of the land you get. And Connor didn’t hesitate to accept it because he hated Devon. So finally Connor won the war and Devon was beheaded by Connor during the great tater basket war. But what Connor didn’t know was that Devon was a fairy and still haunts his soul to this day. But the other alpaca Devin called war on Connor and beheaded him. Devin has all the land in Chupacabra valley and was very happy. But five years after the great tater basket war, Devin and Connor came back to life and just before they killed him Jon came flying from the sky and Killed Connor and Devon. Devin didn’t know what to say so Jon killed him too. Jon was a spec ops Bullfrog and he renamed the valley toadsfeet valley and rules all the animals in that valley. But thankfully for Jon he had kids with this nice Llama called Hannah. Jon was driven crazy by those Alpacas he killed and put fireworks in his mouth and blew up. It was a very sad day for the empire but that lead to the rise of the Llamas but that is for another day.

DeleteOnce upon a time, there was a meteor shower, or what appeared to be a meteor shower. There was a husband and wife watching it. Then, all of a sudden, something that appeared to be a meteor came crashing toward them. As it got closer, they realized that it wasn’t a meteor ; it was a spaceship. The couple quickly ran away as fast as they could. Then, BAM! The spaceship crashed onto earth. Through the smoke, they could see what looked like a baby with blue skin came out with what looked like a turtle with wings. As soon as the wife, Sue saw it she asked her husband, John if they could keep it. He said yes and from that day on they raised the baby as if it was their own.
ReplyDeleteSue and John named the blue baby Rick. Rick had lots of powers. He could fly and was really strong. One day, when Rick was about 12 years old, he came home from school and found that his parents were missing. There was a note that said if he ever wanted to see them again he would have to go to 911 Help Me Street, which was near Evil Lane. Right away Rick flew off there to save his parents. He didn’t leave without taking Sheldon. Sheldon was Rick’s pet that he had held when he came out of the spaceship.
Together they flew and got to the place. They arrived at a white mansion and the butler let them in.
When they got to the place where the butler had taken them, Rick saw an alien that looked like Rick’s species. Rick had seen this alien in his nightmares and he didn’t remember who the this was. To the right of the alien was Sue and John. They were chained to a chair with a big pot of fire above their heads. The bad alien said to Rick, “Remember me, Nevil?, I destroyed your planet and killed your real parents and I’m here to do it again.” Rick remembered and he got very angry. Rick flew over to Nevil and threw him to the ground and tied his hands together. Then, he used his laser beam eyes to get the rope on their hands off. “Hurry, Nevil sent out a command to spray rats with poison infect humans,dogs,cats,you name it, his dad said.” Rick went over to the computer and with Sheldon’s help, he was able to stop the command. Then, they took a cannonball and shot Nevil into the atmosphere. He is still floating in space to this day. Rick gave out his number to people and whenever they need him they call him.
Once upon a time, my mother Dawn Giannone had four kids. She the greatest superhero in my eyes. Raising four kids can’t be easy, somehow the superhero Momma D comes to the rescue. Momma D has rescued me many times. She helps me when I’m down, she buys me really good food only because the only thing she can’t do really well is cook. She can burn water, but she is still the greatest superhero in town.
ReplyDeleteShe is a very strong superhero. On june 6th, 1997, she gave birth to her youngest child, me. I was one her biggest babies. Weighing 9.2 pounds I came out all natural. She said I was wouldn’t stop crying. She even told the nurses that she wanted them to shove me back in because I was so loud! But she never gave up she put up with me and my crying.
One day in elementary school, I forgot my lunch. As soon as I realized this I called Momma D and she came to the school in the Momma D mobile and gave me my lunch. She even packed my favorite, salami and ham with american cheese on a roll.
Even superheroes have their down days. One day when I was about 6 she we were eating dinner in Little Italy and when we were leaving and she left me behind! She said she was talking to my sister and she tried talking to me in the car, when my sister said “Uhh mom she’s not here”. But no worries she came to rescue, she turned that car around and came and got me.
Having two teenage girls can’t be easy. We can be obnoxious, especially when we fight. We even drag her into it sometimes somehow. But usually she knows how to stop it.
My mom is not just my mom she’s my best friend. Most of the time. She’s especially fun to shop with. Momma D is so much fun to drive with. She likes to drive fast on the highway and drive while putting her makeup on. It’s really funny to watch.
Momma D has been through more tragedies more than anyone I know. After losing both her sons somehow she still keeps going with her beautiful smile. She’s the strongest woman I know. One day I hope to be half the mother that she is. The experiences I have with my mom are unexplainable. She’s the most caring mom is the world. I love her with all my heart.

ReplyDeleteOnce upon a time there was a boy named Keegan Melo Anthony. He was born on May 29th 1984. He was destined for a life of saving people, he has become one of the best known heroes of his time. He has saved many people and done many important things in his lifetime.
The story begins in the year 1997. A wonderful kid by the name of Dev-Dev Thomas was born. He was super smart and good at basketball. The day before the bell game against Hancock, Dev-Dev went missing. Of course this meant that Deposit would lose the bell to the Hancockers. There was no way that the Lumberjacks would ever lose to the Wildcats (unless its softball) so this is a big problem. Dev-Dev never returned home from accepting his MVP trophy for the state finals. His parents thought maybe he was killed, but thats not what happend. This is how the story goes....
It was a brisk and dark night the night of March 20th. Dev-Dev had just received his state finals MVP trophy and he was getting in his limousine. As they were driving along, he realized that the limo was getting off the highway and going onto back roads. Finding this a little odd, Dev-Dev decided to ask his driver what was going on. When he looked up front, he saw that he was actually being kidnapped by the captain of the Hancock team, Pyler Tillups. He must have been mad at Dev-Dev’s big block on him in last years bell game.
Back in Deposit, Dev-Dev’s parents were starting to get worried about him. They called the school to see if he was there. When someone answered they discovered that Dev-Dev had left the school 2 hours before they called. They now knew something was wrong, and they sent out a search party to find Dev-Dev.
This is where Keegan Melo Anthony comes in. He had witnessed the kidnapping and had been following the limo. When the limo pulled over, he sprang into action beating up Player and saving Dev-Dev. The Lumberjacks went on to win the bell game by a score of 62-48. Dev-Dev had 48 points, 24 rebounds and 12 blocks.
Keegan is considered to be one of the most important people in Deposit for what he did on this night. He saved Dev-Dev and he saved Deposit basketball for good.

ReplyDeleteThe Odd Quad emerged from the shadows in the winter of 2013, just when the world needed them most. But before I tell you too much, let me tell you how it all began.
One day, an amazing group of friends were hanging out. When they were out riding motorcycles they were all struck by lightning simultaneously. Katie Tiffany, now called KT Power, could run as fast as lighting. Kylie Papagelos became Knockout, she could lift anything with her super strength and is known for her one-two punch. Janai Cornwell became Ironnail, her poison finger could turn people to stone. And finally Devin Schmitz became Psychstorm, he could read people’s minds. They called themselves The Odd Quad. They knew someday they would do great things, but they decided to keep their powers a secret until they needed to use them.
On February 23, 2013 the Burchanator, an evil wizard, and his sidekick, Wreck-It-Raph, tried to rid the world of fun. They wanted to kill and crush the spirits of children and teens everywhere. The Burchanator cast a spell to lock all the doors in the school so they could shove useless knowledge down the throats of young people everywhere. The Odd Quad realized what was happening and knew they were the only ones who could fix this mess. The team rushed the locker rooms to get changed into their super cute hero uniforms.
KT Power raced around the school in search of the Burchanator and Wreck-It-Raph. She found them in the main office inflicting pain on the students over the loudspeaker by telling awful jokes. Knockout came into the scene and hauled the two villains up into the teacher’s lounge where Psychstorm and Ironnail awaited their arrival. Once in the room, Knockout held the villains tightly in her clutches, never releasing them. Psychstorm told Burchanator that he needed to remove the spell from all of the schools of the world. Burchanator said that he would as soon as Knockout released them. Psychstorm knew he was lying and wanted to make the villains fear The Odd Quad. He motioned to Ironnail telling her to turn Wreck-It-Raph to stone. Ironnail pointed that wicked finger at Wreck-It-Raph’s way before he could even say Batman. Burchanator froze in fear looking at his stone sidekick. He started tripping all over himself to apologize and saying he would remove the spell. Burchanator soon cast the spell unlocking all of the doors. Once he did Ironnail pointed her finger at him and turned him to stone.
Finally, the school’s peace was restored and the children were freed. The stone statues now sit outside The Odd Quad’s school as a reminder to everyone that no one can defeat the power of friendship and teamwork. Justice will always be restored with friends like these around.
Currently, Hollywood movie directors and producers are working on making a movie starring The Odd Quad. The Odd Quad is coming to theaters on June 28, 2016. See it in a theater near you.
