Blog 14- Heroic Story

On a dark and stormy Friday night in the middle of June, Alec Montague was born to Margaret and Jason Montague. Nothing out of the ordinary had come to past that stormy night in Prague.  Looking back on that day, almost twenty years ago, Alec had hear the story of his birth so many times from his mother and aunt he could practically tell it word for word himself. Every time he hear the story of his first birthday, he was always filled with wonder, the Sunday after his first birthday his father had gone missing.

To this day he had no idea where his father had gone, he knew that his father wasn’t dead. Little did his mother knew that every year on his birthday, Alec received a card from his father, telling the boy how much his father wished he could be there with him to celebrate his birthday with his son. Alec had always thought that his father was someone very important, not only to him but to whoever he worked for, and maybe that was the reason that his father was never able to come home.

Well none of that matters anymore, since Seth and I are going far far away from this city. Oh how rude of me, Seth is Alec’s best friend, Alec had always love how Seth wasn’t afraid to be a freak along with him. Now that the boys were old enough and finally had a little bit of money they plan to go to college together in the UK. They’d send applications to several different schools, and they both were accepted to Oxford University. The best news wasn’t only that they got into the school but they were accepted on full scholarships.

The boys arrived on campus, on June 17th, three days before Alec’s twentieth birthday. After finishing unpacking the two boys meet to check out the rest of campus. As the two walk with no real point on campus, the boys released just how huge the campus was.

“Thank God we learned English back home!”

“Yeah I never really thought that I was ever going to use it but now, without it how would we talk to......” Seth trailed off as he walked past two beautiful women in pink and blue lace sundresses. “....... Beautiful women like them.” He said as he turned to Alec for his friends opinion of the lovely looking brunettes that had just passed. Apparently the two could still hear Seth because they turned to look at the two boys with smiles across their faces.

“Go ahead and leave me, they look like they're into you, too.” Alec said with a smile. Typical Seth, always looking for trouble, I mean really? We haven’t even been on campus for two hours and he’s already trying to win over girls. Alec thought to himself, and with that Seth was already off talking to the young women.

Alec walked on for a while before finding a dining hall and deciding that it was time try the food, that he’d be eating for quite a while. But he was stopped short, by a men looking at him and for some reason he felt like he knew the man. As Alec continued to look at the man, the man started towards Alec.

As he came towards Alec his mind finally started to make the connects. The man looked like a slightly aged version of the picture that his father had sent Alec along with his birthday card on his fourteenth birthday.

“Excuse me, young man, you look a lot like someone that I know. If you don’t mind my asking, What’s your name?”

Alec had never remembered his father very clearly, and for some reason he was a little hesitant in answer the man’s question. Then he thought he’d be funny and tell the man in true James Bond form, “The name’s Montague, Alec Montague.”

And with that a million dollar smile spread across the man’s face. “Really?!?! Alec?!?! It’s really you?”

To this Alec reacted, to that like any nineteen year old would when a stranger asks if you’re really who you say you are, “Nope. Sorry I’m Santa Claus.” He spat with sarcasm. “If you don’t mind me, asking who are you?”

“Well since you’re Santa, I’m the Easter Bunny.” The man said with just as much, if not more sarcasm in his voice, “I think we’re off on the wrong foot already. Sorry my name's Jason Montague.”

Jason waited a little bit as the information sank into Alec’s mind. After a while Jason wasn’t to sure that Alec remember who he was.

“Your father.....” Jason prompted.

“Oh, I know who you are I’m just trying to get my head, around the fact that you haven’t been here for me for almost nineteen years and then I go off the college and here you are. How did you find me here, of all the places in the world, How did you know I’d be at Oxford Univestary?"

This question took Jason by surprise, “Uuuuhhhh, lucky guess.....” He trailed off, “You’re probably hungary right? Want to get something to eat? I have a lot to tell you.”

Alec hesitantly answered, "Sure, dad. I have a lot of questions for you anyway.”

The two of them went through the dinner line in dining hall. They sat down to start their long catch up and who comes back but Seth, with the biggest smile across his face.

“Hey, Alec. Those girls are something else, but the one was really into you, asked me to give you this,” he said handing Alec a folded piece of paper, “Probably her number, or is it a love note?” Seth asked curiously

“Hey there, that's for me to know and you to possibly never find out.” Alec said grabbing the note out of Seth’s hand before he could take the paper and read for himself what she had wrote.
“Who’s this?” Seth asked just noticing the man sitting across from Alec.
“Believe it or not this is my dad, Jason Montague.” Alec said to Seth even though he knew Seth would never believe him.
“I thought that your dad left when you were a baby?” Seth said slightly confused.
“I did, but I was just about to explain why. If you don’t mind my asking, Who are you?” Jason said to Seth.

 “I’m Alec’s friend, Seth.”

“So you’re the famous Seth, I’ve heard so much about.”

“How and what do you know about me?” Seth said as if he just found out that he had had a stalker for years and finally found that all his fears were confirmed.

“Seth, ya know how every year on my birthday I’d get a letter from my dad. Well after a while I started to answer the letters.” Alec answered.

“So you have talked to your dad, since he left? You always made him look like the bad guy whenever you talked about him.” Seth answered.

“Well not exactly, I never wrote to him more than once a year so it wasn’t much of a conversation that we had going on......” Jason answered in defence of his son.

“Well why did you never write to him, you could have helped him through so much that he had to figure out himself!” Seth shot back at Jason.

“Well if you’d stop asking so many questions and just let me explain why I did what I did then maybe some of your questions would be answered and we could save so much time.” Jason spat at Seth. You could hear the annoyance in his voice.

“Okay, Start explaining.” Seth demanded.

“Wow, I was expecting that from my son, not his friends. I thought that Alec would the tough guy to get to listen to me.”

“Well when you grow up around mom you really  learn to just shut up and listen and even when she wrong, she’s still right.” Alec said.

“Sounds like she hasn’t changed a single bit, your mother, was always like that.” Jason said with a pity smile across his face and a slight laugh in his voice.

All three just looked at each other and started laughing like they’d known each other forever, even Seth who was just about to kill Jason.

"Well anyway, back to explaining myself so Seth doesn't kill me."

Jason looked over both his shoulders. Alec thought his father had lost his mind. "Okay, I think you're both old enough to take care of yourselves." Taking one last look over his shoulder, "Well Alec, I left you because I didn't want to put you and your mother in danger."

 "What do you mean dad?"

"Well son, I'm a........."

“Secret Agent.” finished some guys behind Jason.

With that Jason jumped up only to be dragged away by two guys that looked like they could be Alec’s age.

The last thing that Alec heard his father say to him was, “London or Paris.”

What could he mean by that? Alec thought to himself, not really taking in the fact that his father had just been kidnapped by two weird guys.
