Post 10: Myth Making

For this blog, you will be working with a partner in creating a myth about Deposit. You can come up with a story about how the town was created or any heroic figures who may have been a part of Deposit's ancient history. Use the myth of the Monkey King from our class readings and Gene Luen Yang's American Born Chinese for examples.

After writing the myth, you will create a graphic version of the story in at least three comic book frames. Artwork is due Monday, 3/4/13.

Your myth should be at least 300-400 words, and must be posted by 3pm Friday (**signed by both partners**).

Good luck!

Post 9: Being a Newcomer

Hello all,

Next week, we will be starting Gene Luen Yang's graphic novel, American Born Chinese. The main plot-line concerns Jin, a young Chinese American boy, who moves to a new town and tries to fit in with those around him. In order to do this, he undergoes a series of changes, leading him on a journey of self-discovery and self-acceptance.

For this week's blog, you are being asked to reflect on a time in your life when you were a newcomer. Describe, in detail, a time in your life when you've been put into a new situation. How did you deal with it? What, if anything, did you do to fit in?  Provide context.

Responses should be at least 300-400 words and are due by 3 p.m. Friday, 2/15.

I chose the song over by Blake Shelton because it reminds me of the part in Much ado about Nothing in act three when claudio shames hero at their wedding. i also picked the song someday by nickleback because it is like the part in the play when claudio realizes that hero was faithful and that it was his fault that she died.  the song over  is about a relationship being over in an instant. that is how it relates to the begining of act three.that song someday has a lesson in it and that lesson is to not shame the person you love you it will come back to bit you in the end and they wont want to go back with you. in the case of Much ado about nothing completely the opposite happens. hero wants to get back with claudio and they end up getting married.

out of the two songs that i pick only the song someday would also relate to benedick ad beatrice. that song relates to them because about half way through the play, right after claudio shames hero, benedick says he will do anything to be with beatrice. in the song someday someone is willing to do anything for the person they want to be with. so beatrice tell benedick to kill his best friend. so he goes to challenge claudio but they dont fight because that is when claudio realizes that hero was actually faithful.
