The Unsuspecting Blow

She walked through the forest very calmly knowing that nothing could stop her. She knew the forest was filled with demons waiting to kill her, but she didn’t care. Her name was Vexx and she is the daughter of Hades. She has tried running away from him many times and all tries have failed. This time it worked, and she has been free from the Underworld for four days now, walking aimlessly.

Suddenly she heard a branch break behind her. She stopped in mid step and slowly turned around. Behind her stood a large 6 foot tall all black figure with glowing red eyes. She stared it down, her golden eyes examining the creature as if it is nothing. She knew of the creature and she has had several encounters with it before. “I warned you before creature, I told you to stop following me, I AM NEVER GOING BACK!!,” she yelled furious, “and now you will pay the ultimate price”. She tilted her head and the creature dropped to the ground rolling around, screeching in pain. Her eyes pierced the creature and filled it with pain. Finally after minutes of torture she snapped her fingers and the creature’s neck snapped. She turned around and continued on as if nothing had happened.

Suddenly her eyes caught a glimpse of a building, no of a couple buildings, “ah a nice place to lay low for a while while i figure things out.” She walked to the edge of the little town examining it. Her eyes flickered black as she saw a person. Her senses told her that something evil was in the town, but she pondered it for a while and realized that nothing could be more evil than her. She walked in and saw a vacant house. Walking toward it, she turned the handle to find out that it was locked. People walked by staring at her and she couldn’t help but to not look at them, for if they found out what she was the other “ones” would surely kill her.

Her dad called them the other “ones”he never spoke of them even when she asked him questions about them. All that he told her was to stay away from them. He told her that they were the only ones that could hurt her. She hated her dad for what he was and what he created her into, so she never listened anyway.

She broke the door handle off and walked inside, and quietly closed the door and laid on a comfy white couch to rest. Before she even knew what happened Vexx was asleep.

The morning sun pierced the windows and made her skin all tingly. She knew it was time to get up and figure things out. She rose up and walked out of the house. The town was empty. She was still half asleep as she walked around. Suddenly as she walked past a building a dark figure two times the size of the one before slammed her into the wall. It took the breath out of her, and she had no time to react. The creature held her arms above her head, it took its claw and put it at the tip of her stomach, injecting poison, that she knew could kill her in a matter of minutes, into her.

But out of nowhere as the pain started a lightning bolt came out of the sky and hit the creature killing it. She dropped to the ground holding her stomach in pain. Vexx closed her eyes as the pain got worse, but suddenly she heard footsteps running up to her. She dared not to open her eyes, for it might be a human. The man spoke to her in such a soft voice and, it calmed her down and soothed the pain for a moment. “Don’t worry I will get you out of here, everything is going to be ok” he whispered in her ear. The last thing she felt is being picked up and flying? She felt the wind blowing through her hair and she believed that she was flying, then everything went black.

She woke up in a huge house sleeping on a bed with velvet blankets covering her. Vexx tried to get up but pain overcame her. She felt a hand on her shoulder, and looked to see a man standing there. As her vision came back she saw a soft face with big blue eyes, with lightning bolts in them. There was a scar over his right eyebrow, and his shortcut blonde hair shined in the light. “Who-who are you”she asked very shaky.

“I am Jason” he said, “and who are you?”. She was very weary to answer but she could tell that he was not normal. He sat next to her on the bed.

“I am Vexx.”

“Ahh well very nice to meet you Vexx, and such a pretty name too for such a pretty face.” She didn’t know what it was about him, but she felt weird around him, something tingled inside of her. She blushed and he handed her a cup of red liquid.

“What is this?” she asked.

“Uh its the stuff that saved your life so i suggest you drink it,” there was something about him that also told her that he was dangerous. She drank the liquid. “Am i free to leave Jason?”....

“Well of course but you are in no condition to move anywhere darlin’” he turned on the TV “ I mean look at what’s happening it’s so crazy” he said. On the TV it depicted pictures of earthquakes, fires, and weird creatures murdering people. Vexx gasped at the sight because she knew it was because her father finally found out that she was gone, and he would stop at nothing to find her.

“What’s wrong?” he asked.

“Umm oh nothing it’s just really freaky”.

“You got that right” he answered. “My father isn’t too happy about it, he says that it interrupts his work”. Vexx had a feeling that his father must be someone very important for it to be interrupting his work.

Vexx sat up in the bed “I uh have to leave like now”. She could feel the presence of something evil near. and she didn't want Jason to get hurt.

“But you can't leave you are in no shape” he said. She quickly rose out of the bed, and as she looked at the room all she could see were stars (feeling so dizzy). “Please you can't leave” Jason said. She turned to him and looked into his eyes, which were so captivating to look at. She paused for a moment as she felt something weird. He got closer to her and he whispered in her ear “ I will protect you from the evil you can trust me Vexx”. It gave her chills down her spine, the way his voice flew through her ear and sunk into her body. She took a breath and realized that he wasn't lying, and that he was going to protect her. But she couldn't let him get hurt she barely even knew him but the way he looked at her, Vexx knew that he was different.

“I can't let you hurt yourself I mean, for me, I barely even know you.”

“Look i know you don't trust me but there's something about you that i find so captivating.” She sighed knowing that whatever she said he was going to stay with her one way or another.

“Fine but don't help me unless I need you to.”

“Fine”he said. She knew that this was her mission to confront her father and talk to him. But she knew that she would have to get rid of Jason somehow, he could not find out that she was the daughter of Hades. Her father could not find out about Jason for if he found out she knew that he would have eternal punishment just for touching her.

“They won't be able to even get in” he told Vexx, as he saw the worried look in her eyes, “there is a protective barrier around the house so at least let me give you the grand tour of the house.” He grabbed her hand. It was so soft and warm. She had never felt this warmness before. It made her stomach flip. She smiled giving into his intriguing eyes.

“Fine she said but then i need to leave”. Vexx was in awe as she saw the house. The walls were dark blue and the house was so big it took an hour to just view everything. They both talked and talked not knowing what they were getting each other into. Vexx liked talking to him she had never met someone this nice before, but Vexx knew that she would have to betray him so he could never find out her secret.

As they neared a window Vexx saw that demons were starting to gather around the barrier. They were trying to break the invisible force. Jason saw the worried look in Vexx’s eyes, and he quickly pulled Vexx away and grabbed her other hand. She could see that Jason was worried too. “I am going to get us somewhere safe” he told her. “You just have to trust me”. Vexx knew she had to run now but she couldn't. There was some force that tugged and pulled at her insides, and it told her to stay with Jason. Jason grabbed a book from a book case and opened to a page with writing Vexx didn't understand. He said something, but before Vexx could hear what he said she heard a loud CRACK and everything went black.

Vexx woke up. Her head hurt and she couldn't move. She tried moving her hands but soon realized that she had chains around them. She was also chained to a wall. She opened her eyes and saw that she was in a prison cell. There were no windows and it was pitch black. She moved one of her hands in front of her face and blew on it, and a flame caught just above her finger tip. It made it so she could see the whole cell now. She looked around trying to remember what happened and she remembered. “Jason!!” Vexx yelled for him. Suddenly she heard voices outside of her cell and they seemed to be getting closer. Vexx couldn't make out the voices, but she knew that they were dark creatures. The door cracked open and a black shadow about eight feet tall came in. It hovered above the ground and it unlocked Vexx’s chains. She was so furious she tried punching it, but her hand went right through it. The shadow grabbed ahold of her somehow and it dragged her outside the cell. As soon as she stepped outside Vexx knew where she was. She was home.

The shadow led her through the gates and to the palace. Vexx closed her eyes because she never thought she would end up here again. Before she even knew it she heard a booming voice. “Oh great” she thought , for Vexx knew that if her father had captured her, he had surely gotten Jason too. She opened her eyes to see her dad walking toward her in his normal form. “Vexx” he said “what a lovely surprise,” he grabbed Vexx by her arm and dragged her over to his throne chaining her up to a pillar. “ Just in time to see a punishment trial, oh the gods, how I have missed you” he smiled at her as she looked down at the ground. “Bring the prisoner out” he yelled, “oh this is going to be so fun”. Vexx hated her father for everything that he had done to her. She wished that he would die or the other “ones” would just kill him. Vexx looked up as she heard someone struggling against two demons. She gasped at the horror. Jason.. he had blood running down his face and he was covered in bruises like he had been beaten.

“Father let him go right now!!” her voice echoed through the room. Hades, ignoring his daughter, walked over to Jason.

“Ahh what a lovely surprise” Jason looked over to Vexx. His eyes pleaded to her to not watch but she couldn't help herself. Hades raised his arm and punched Jason across the face. Jason spit out blood and didn't say a word. “A son of Zeus i suppose”. Hades kicked Jason in the leg breaking his bones. Jason yelped in pain, and Vexx couldn't take much more. Hades laughed as Jason screamed. “ Just a boy too, well too bad you even laid eyes on my daughter.”

“Dad stop!!!” Vexx screamed.

”And you, to be with a boy of the other “ones”, you disappoint me. Hades walked over to Vexx he stroked her chin with his hand, and suddenly he pulled out a knife. “You will remember to not run away from me” he said. Hades put the knife at the tip of Vexx’s stomach, and black poison spread into her. Vex knew she had to do something as Hades walked back over to Jason. She began to feel the pain. It made her mad and she felt something she had rarely felt only on occasions when she was super mad. Vexx pulled at the chains ripping them right out of the pillar. Hades turned around, but only after he put the poison into Jason. She stared at her dad, looking right into his eyes, telling him that they were about to fight. “Ahh a little father daughter showdown, sounds good to me.” Vexx wasn't joking as she charged at her father, who thought she was joking. She slammed into him knocking him against his throne. She ran over to Jason as he was lying on the ground choking from the poison. (You see Vexx had had the poison so many times it didn't start hurting bad until after a couple of hours. The effects of the poison can kill a person in just a few minutes though). Vexx looked at Jason and took his hand, now she knew who he was and she had to get him out of here. Suddenly Hades came up behind her and grabbed her shoulder. “Vexx i don't want to hurt you” he said.

“Well thats a first” she yelled back grabbing his arm and shoving as much pain as she could into him. The pain only made Hades get more mad because he had given Vexx that power, and now she was using it against him. Vexx took his arm and then jumped over his back breaking it. She kicked him and he went flying into the wall hitting his head. Vexx ran over to Jason who was now screaming, “I have to get you to your father he is one of the only ones that can cure it”.

Jason pointed to a book laying on the ground, he whispered “page 24, read the words”. Vexx ran and got the book and opened it to page 24. She saw the words στο βουνό των θεών, she understood them and read them aloud in English, “to the mountain of the gods”. Jason grabbed her hand and everything turned white as they appeared, landing on the ground of a cold white marble floor.

She looked around seeing two strange faces looking at her. Two strong men grabbed her by the arms and dragged her away from Jason. Vexx stared at the one man who looked like Zeus, he ran over to Jason and he chanted something, and Jason got up. “Jason what has happened?” Zeus asked.

“Well dad long story short i met Vexx and her dad got pretty mad.”

“You mean you were with that thing” Zeus pointed to Vexx.

“Dad that is Vexx and she is a really sweet girl.”

“Son believe me she is a monster.” Vexx looked at Jason with eyes begging him to make them let go.

“Ares Apollo let her go” Jason said. “She is not going to hurt anyone.” Zeus knew Jason was telling the truth and as soon as the men let her go Jason ran over to Vexx and her eyes looked lifeless. “Vexx are you ok?” Jason asked her.

“I will not tolerate this son she needs to be executed immediately”.

Jason ran up to Zeus as fast as lightning and looked into his eyes so intensely Zeus even backed down, “you won't touch her”. Ares and Apollo grabbed Vexx again and Artemis appeared with her bow drawn and pointing right at Vexx. Just as Vexx thought it was over she saw a bright flash of light and the woman was suddenly on the ground. Everyone looked at Jason and couldn't believe what he had just done. He had just hurt Artemis. All the gods ran over to her not caring about Jason and Vexx. Jason grabbed Vexx’s hand and chanted a few words, and they disappeared.

When they appeared, they were in a meadow with flowers all around, as far as she could see. There was a small cabin nearby, and Vexx wondered where they were. She saw Jason standing, staring at the sky. She walked over to him and grabbed his waist hugging him. “Thank you so much for everything, but I won't let you risk your life anymore I- I have to leave.” He turned around and looked into her eyes. She could see that they were full of regret and sorrow.

“Please” he said pleading “stay with me, we are safe here” Vexx knew that if she left it would just break Jason.

“Fine i will stay”she said. “Where are we anyway?” Vexx asked.

“We are on an island i discovered a couple years ago no one knows about it except me and now you , and it is protected so nothing can ever get to us, ever.” Vexx smiled and walked toward the edge of the island with Jason following behind her. She saw the cold waters and ran into it diving in. She laughed and played in the water as Jason sat at the edge. He stared at Vexx taking in her beauty. Jason loved her eyes most of all the brightness of them shimmered in the sunlight. The sun started going down and Vexx walked out of the water. She walked over and sat next to him.

“You are a little soaked aren't you?” Jason asked.

“Well yeah but watch this” she smiled and Jason couldn't help but to stare at her. She put her finger to her mouth and blew air out, making the flame ignite above it again. Vexx put it onto her shirt and her clothes and even her hair puffed up, all of a sudden becoming dry.

“Wow now you aren't” Jason inched closer to her and she laid her head in his lap. They both sat there watching the stars as they thought about what was waiting for them in the reality world, and both of them realized a cult of angry gods was wreaking havoc on the human world looking for them both. Vexx sat up shivering and Jason pulled her closer.

“Vexx i know we just met and all but...” she put a finger to his mouth shushing him. She leaned in closer and they kissed.

Vexx woke up laying in the meadow. She stood up and saw Jason pacing. “Vexx they are going to be here any minute” he sounded worried.

“Wait who is going to be here?” she asked.

“My father and your father they sent a message to me early this morning and they said that they wanted us back, and that if we didn't go back they were coming to get us.” Vexx gasped at the horror. She knew her father was going to torture her for hurting him. Vexx didn't know what to do so she began to cry. Tears streamed down her cheeks and Jason realized what he had just done. “No no no Vexx its ok i will protect us from them don't worry.” She looked up and he realized that there was no hope in her eyes. Jason hugged her tightly as she still cried. “Listen we can go and hide for a while i know of a great hiding place that will fool them for a while.” She nodded and he led her out of the meadow and into a cave just behind the little run down cabin.

The cave was dark and very shallow. Suddenly as Vexx stopped crying and sat down they heard a loud BOOM. Jason knew that it was the gods breaking down the barrier and they made it in. He kissed Vexx on the forehead and they both were as still as they possibly could be as they heard the gods searching everywhere for them. Jason could smell fires “probably the cabin and the trees” he thought.

Vexx could hear the sniffing of hell hounds. “This is the end”she thought. Jason put his mouth so close to her ear only she could hear him. “I have something very important to ask you” he whispered.

“What? we are about to die what is it?” she said a little louder than she should have. Jason pulled out a ring from his back pocket Vexx gasped. Jason got down on one knee. Vexx will you marry me?.

“Ye..” she began to say, then Vexx heard a loud bark and she turned her head to find a group of hell hounds barking at them. Vexx saw a dark flash and everything began to swirl around and she passed out.

Suddenly Vexx woke up. She realized that everything was white. She looked down at herself to see that she was wearing a beautiful white dress. Vexx looked up to see Jason in a white tuxedo. “I do” came out of his mouth as Vexx looked around.

“I do” Vexx said as Jason looked at her weirdly.

“Vexx? VEXX?” she heard him shouting but everything began to swirl again. She woke up barely breathing in the middle of the meadow. She grabbed the soft flowers as she realized Jason was standing beside her asking if she was ok. Suddenly Jason was ripped away by something Vexx could not see. Her vision was blurry and she stood up. Someone with such force grabbed her arms and held her back so she could not move. Her vision cleared and she saw Jason with Zeus doing the same to him. She realized that they were trying to separate Jason and her. The fighting ceased as Jason was being dragged backwards.

“Jason!!” she yelled. Someone punched her across the face making her jaw hurt badly. “YES” she yelled “I will marry you.” They were getting so far away from each other that she could barely hear him. But she saw the smile across his face Vexx gasped because she felt something cold and hard stab through her stomach.

The last thing she remembered was Jason cradling her in his arms telling her that everything was going to be ok, and she felt the cool streaming tears flowing down her arms as he started crying, and then everything stopped.
