Charles Caleb Colton said, “ we hate some persons because we do not know them; and will not know them because we hate them.” What this quote means is that people hate people they don’t know. The reason people hate people they don’t know is because they never take the chance to get to know them because they hate them. I agree with the quote. There are two books that show this.

The first book that illustrates the quote is Lord of the Flies. In the book, Jack hated Ralph. Jack hated Ralph so much that he didn’t to get to know him. He even tried to kill Ralph. Hate makes a person do evil things. Hate can lead to murder. Another example from the Lord of the Flies, is when Roger killed Piggy. Roger, like Jack didn’t try to get to know Piggy. Roger hated Piggy because Piggy was fat and wore glasses. Roger judged Piggy by his physical appearance. Even today, people hate others because of their looks.

Another book that demonstrates Colton’s statement is true is Hate. In the story, Tibor hated all Russians because they had killed his family. This hatred led him to kill someone. This person was a women. When Tibor found out that he had killed a women he felt bad. So in this case it was race that made him kill someone he didn't know and never got to know her because he had killed her.

These two books show that people hate others that they don't know becuase of physical apperance or race. Hate leads to anger which in turn can lead to murder. Being prejudice is a bad thing. It only makes a person angry. If people weren't so full of hate the world would be a better place.Unfortunatly Tibor, Jack, and Roger allowed their hatred to lead them to do bad things.

  4. Charles Caleb Colton once said, "We hate some persons because we do not know them; and will not know them because we hate them." I believe this means that we hate people because we don't know them and we will always hate them because we don't want to know them. People will judge based on looks and what we have heard about them so we will not know them because we already dislike them from what we have heard. I agree with this quote, being a teenager in high school I know how people act around certain types and I know the direct feeling of hate, the direct feeling of this quote.

In Arthur C. Clarke's short story, 'Hate' there's a conflict that describes this quote perfectly. Tibor, the main character has a deep hate for Russian's because of an incident of his past. Tibor hates Russian's because a few had came in and murdered his brother. He waits for the moment he can get revenge and when he gets the opportunity he takes it without hesitation, only regretting it in the end. After Tibor murders a Russian in a space capsule he doesn't see the woman as a Russian, but as any other woman. Tibor's hate for a few Russian's stereotyped him to believe all Russian's are bad people.

'Lord of the Flies' by William Golding is another book that has many conflicts associated with this quote. Young boys stranded on an island are constantly fighting over who is the leader. Ralph, being the wisest, and Jack being the oldest. Ralph won his title by his brains and Jack was frustrated with him because of this. He believed he should have been leader because he was the oldest. Jack hunts for Ralph and has everyone turn on him when he doesn't even know Ralph. He just knows he wants him dead because he didn't get his way.

Both of these books are good examples of this quote. It shows that people hate entire races and religions, just because of what one individual does. It also shows people will hate out of envy because of what others have or deserve. People let their hate get to their core and do awful things, as Tibor and Jack did.

  5. Charles Caleb Colton said, “We hate some persons because we do not know them; and will not know them because we hate them.” I think the quote means that sometimes hate makes us blind. What I mean by that is hate makes it so we don’t want to get to know someone just because of what we’ve heard from others, or how we think of someone without knowing them.

I agree with what Charles Caleb Colton said. I agree with the quote because like I said in the previous paragraph hate can make you blind. Colton’s quote is very well said, and I believe that people do hate others without actually getting to know them. People are quick to judge others because of what they think is true, but that is not always the case.

Charles Caleb Colton’s quote, “We hate some persons because we do not know them; and will not know them because we hate them” relates to William Golding’s Lord of the Flies. In the novel Jack and Ralph disagree from the starts because they both want different things, they are quick to hate one another without knowing where the other is coming from. Hate is powerful was a major theme in the book, and it is the main theme of Colton’s quote. Another book that relates to Colton’s quote is the short story Hate by Arthur C. Clark. Hate is a story about a man named Tibor who kills a young girl because he wants revenge against the Russians. Without even knowing the girl, Tibor sabotages their rescue missions. This relates to the quote because Colton says how people hate without knowing one another, and that is exactly what Tibor did.

These two books demonstrate how bad hate can be, and how it can take you over. They also show that people tend to hate each other because of where they come from or their race. Which is obscured because it doesn’t matter where you come from, it matters how you treat others. I believe that Colton’s quote, “We hate some persons because we do not know them; and will not know them because we hate them,” is a really good quote, and that people should follow it, because this world would be better if there was less hate in it.

  6. The quote “We hate some persons because we do not know them; and will not know them because we hate them.” was said by Charles Caleb Colton. This quote could have many meanings to it. I think this quote is trying to say that, because we hear bad things about certain people, we choose not befriend them.

In a way, I agree with this quote. It happens a lot in school situations. There are usually cliques in school with a group of girls or, in some cases I guess, dramatic boys. Usually someone will hear something about someone else from another clique and they automatically hate them just because of what they heard. People do this without even knowing someone personally or knowing anything about their past. It’s actually kind of pathetic that society is like that these days.

William Golding's Lord of the Flies is a novel that shows this quote perfectly. Right from the very start of the story, Ralph and Jack hate each other. It may have been because one was jealous of the other, but I honestly don’t know the exact reason.

Also in Arthur C. Clarke's story 'Hate' it shows an example of this quote. Throughout the short story, Tibor hates the Russians because of the fact that his brother died in the war against the Russians. So when he sees the Russian Sputnik he automatically wants to kill whoever is in it. Later on in the story though, he realizes that there was just an innocent little Russian girl inside of the Sputnik. He then feels guilty about the fact that he killed her.

I think that hate is a learned characteristic. People aren’t born hating other people or things. People are taught to hate certain things. It doesn’t always mean that it’s right for someone to hate another human being just because they are taught to hate them, but it is what some people believe. Well, that’s what I think anyways.

  8. The quote “We hate some persons because we do not know them; and will not know them because we hate them” is by Charles Caleb Colton is very true. I agree that most people do have hate and don’t get to know others because of it.
I agree that many people don’t know others and judge them without getting to know them. Then they hate them even though they never got to know them. They also refuse to know them because they already hate them. Many kids on the island of lord of the flies didn’t like Piggy and picked on him without actually getting to know him as a friend. Tibor made the decision to hate the girl in the space shuttle because of what her country did to his family and town. Afterwards he realized she couldn’t stop her country from do all of that she was innocent.
Other people have hate because they judge from a distance and are jealous of them. For example Jack hates Ralph because he was chosen to be the leader and wanted to get rescued, while Jack wanted to play and have fun. Jacks hate led to the death of Piggy and the hunt of Ralph. If the boys got along they could have been saved a long time before they actually were saved. Hate leads to not listening to others ideas and opinions. Jack was so mad at Ralph for being leader that he refused to help keep up the signal fire to be rescued. Instead he left bringing many others with him. Tibors hate lead to him wanting revenge. His revenge led to the death of a young girl.
Hate is common in many people, for some more than others, but it is much easier to hate someone and not get to know them isn’t it? Its simpler to judge from a distance than become their friend. I can understand if you were friends and you still hate them. Therefor I agree with Charles Caleb Coltons quote.

  9. "We hate some persons because we do not know them; and will not know them because we hate them” is a very good quote by Charles Caleb Colton. Hate is a very strong word.

I agree with this quote. One reason I agree with this quote is you can’t hate someone and not know them, most of the time you should have a pretty good reason to hate. This happens a lot in our school and all around us, mainly in our school. There are so many people in school that hate people just simply because of the way they dress or even the people they hang out with. I strongly believe that hate is a main reason commit suicide. Just because you dislike someone don’t mean you have to make sure they know it everyday of there life. Many people bully because of that.

The quote “We hate some persons because we do not know them; and will not know them because we hate them” by Charles Caleb Colton can relate to many different things. This blog is obviously under 300 words.

  10. Charles Colton once said “we hate some persons because we do not know them; and will not know them because we hate them”. If you hate someone you do not know your hate overcomes the part of the mind that wants to know them is what this quote is saying. This quote is a very strong statement with a lot of meanings
I agree with Colton’s quote. Once you hate someone you never want to have to do anything with that person. Hate is such a strong emotion that it can overcome many other emotions and feelings. Hate also takes away your sensibility and how you feel about things. Feeling hatred for someone can overtake your life. One book represents this quote.
The book that represents the quote is “Hate” by Arthur Clarke. In the story a man named Tibor is a pearl diver. While diving Tibor finds a Russian space capsule with someone in it. Tabor once lived in Budapest and some of his family was killed by the Russians. Tibor wants to take revenge on the Russians by killing the person in the space capsule. Tibor stalls rescue attempts so that the Russian inside dies. When the space capsule is pulled up and Tibor finds out that he killed a little girl, he feels guilty. Hatred overtook Tibor’s mind and he didn’t even know the girl in the space capsule. Afterwards Tibor felt guilty and come to find out the girl in the space capsule was holding a tape recorder and Tibor was caught. Tibor realized at the end that his hate took over him and he didn’t even realize what he was doing.
Hate can affect many things. It affects other people and not just the person you are hating. It affects loved ones, it can affect your work. Hate is a very strong emotion and people should overcome hate and not feel it towards anyone.

  11. "We hate some persons because we do not know then; and will not know them because we hate them" is a quote by Charles Caleb Colton.

I agree with this quote. I don't think that you should hate someone unless you have a pretty good reason too. If you’re too busy judging someone and hating someone before you even know them, then you will never get the chance to know them. A lot of people judge you for the things you wear, who you are, siblings and much more. If you just met someone and you already hate them just by looking at them, then what was the point of even meeting them? Hate is a strong word, and I don’t think there is even any way that you can hate someone with just meeting them, without getting to know them. Like in the story Lord of the Flies, they were stuck on an island with each other for a while; they were all starting to hate each other. They judged piggy without even getting to know him. Which is clearly not right? They judged him for everything that he did. That is how people are in real life. They judge everyone for everything and everything that they do right. I feel like people point out everyone’s flaws, instead of pointing out the good things. There is something good in everyone, and some people just don’t realize it. Everyone has their own set of friends who stick together. That does not mean you should hate someone just because of what they do, or don’t do. I don’t believe that you can hate someone just by looking at them, or even meeting them for the first time. “We hate some persons because we do not know them; and will not know them because we hate them” is a very good quote by Charles Caleb Colton. As I said before I do agree with this.

  12. Charles Caleb Colton one stated that "We hate some persons because we do not know them; and will not know them because we hate them.” This quote, of course, explains hatred. What Colton means by this is that if we let hate make up our decisions in life, we will never accomplish things if we did not.
I agree with this quote in many ways. For example, if you hate someone without knowing them, then that will be your opinion on them. In order to back up this opinion you would need to know this person, and because you hate them, you will never get to know them and never back up your claim.
In William Golding’s The Lord of the Flies this quote applies little. Jack and Ralph both hate each other because they got into an argument and slit off, this meaning that they once knew each other. In Arthur C. Clarke’s “Hate”, Tibor, the protagonist of the story, hates the Russians for what they did to his country and his brother. Tibor does not physically know the Russian, they may have just been following orders, but he does not know this, he just assumes all of them are bad. From this when his pearling ship finds the Russian capsule, he delays its recovery, killing the pilot inside.
Hate can be a mind controller in some ways if you do not control it. "We hate some persons because we do not know them; and will not know them because we hate them.” This explains that in many ways, hatred if a very strong feeling that can create bad relationships with others, and they may never return or become good.

  13. What the quote "We hate some persons because we do not know them; and will not know them because we hate them." means to me is we might hate someone because we think they have something we want. But they might be a really good person you are just going not talk to them because you think there a bad person.

I agree with that quote because it happens still today and a lot of people are like that. In hate it proves the quote is true, because he wants to kill her off because it says something Russian on the space craft. And it turns out it was just a women in their that nothing to do with the Russians projects. I think hate can be a terrible thing and in extreme cases it can cause you to hurt innocent people.

Another book that shows hate is a terrible thing is Lord Of The Flies. Because the boys are having fun in the begging but later on the book Jack turns the boys on Ralph and the eventually try to kill him just because of hate. And for example the boys hated piggy just because he was fat and had glasses, in real life you get judged by that too.

Everyone dislikes something but when someone starts Hating something or someone for no reason. That is when you you know its getting bad and you might even hurt someone on accident or on purpose.

  14. Charles Caleb Colton says “we hate some persons because we do not know them; and will not know them because we hate them.” The quote basically means that people assume things about other people which lead them to hate that person. Then once they hate them they do not want to know this person because they have misleading thoughts about them.
I agree with the quote, because lots of people in school may just assume things about people which lead them to hate those people. Hatred leads people to be judgmental. In Lord of the Flies Jack hated Ralph because he was a leader, which made Jack go behind Ralph and start his own “clique”. Everyone also hated piggy so they never believed him which got some of them killed.
In the story “hate” Tibor hates the Russian’s because of the death of his brother which leads to the death of an innocent little girl in the space craft.
I think that hate can be very terrible. Especially if it’s over something stupid like the quote. If you don’t know anything about someone then why hate them. You don’t know what they’ve been through or even what they are like if you choose to hate them. If you chose to hate someone how could you know what they are like? You can’t, you’re just being judgmental. Both of these books are great examples of why hatred can be so horrible.

  15. Charles Caleb Colton stated in his quote “We hate some persons because we do not know them; and will not know them because we hate them”. I believe that this quote means that you will always hate someone if you do not try to meet them. I think that people hate others because they have not taken the time to get to know someone all of the way. I agree with this quote, two stories that we have read in class relate to hating each other.

In the Lord on the Flies William Golding writes about two tribes of boys who come to hate each other. The boys hate each other due to one another’s in ability to do their jobs. Ralph’s tribe wanted to be rescued as Jack’s tribe wanted to be savages. Jack’s tribe starts to hate Ralph’s tribe because of jealously that Ralph’s side has fire. Once Jack steals the fire both tribes have hatred towards each other. The boys on the island have this conflict because they do not know each other. The boys do not know all of the little things about each other that make them have different feelings. The hate on the island leads to Piggy beings killed after Jack steals his glasses. Jack’s tribe picks on Piggy a lot because of his asthma which leads him to hate Piggy. The hate on the island finishes at the end of the book when the naval officer saves them.

In ‘Hate’ by Arthur C. Clarke a pearl diving crew uncovers a Russian spacecraft. One of the pearl divers takes the responsibility to recover the spacecraft. The diver is Tibor who finds that the spacecraft is Sputnik. When he finds that the spacecraft is Russian he starts to feel hate. Tibor hates the Russians because they killed his brother in Budapest. Tibor learns that there is a person inside of Sputnik. Tibor has so much hate towards the Russians; he finds out how much time the person has to live and delays the rescue mission. When the crew gets to shore with Sputnik they open it and find that the person inside is a girl who is dead. Tibor feels bad that he kills a girl who has nothing to do with his brother’s death. This shows that not knowing someone can lead you to hate them.

In both of the stories Lord of the Flies and ‘Hate’ hatred leads people to do bad things to other people. In Lord of the Flies Jack’s tribe has hate towards Ralph’s tribe because Ralph has the ability to make fire. In ‘Hate’ Tibor has hate towards a Russian he does not know and ends with him killing them. Due to hate from Jack’s Tribe and Tibor it leads them to do bad things to other people who are not guilty.

  16. "We hate some persons because we do not know them; and will not know them because we hate them,” was once said by Charles Caleb Colton. This quote is very straightforward. It basically means that people can hate other people without ever getting to really know them. And because we automatically hate them so much, we will never get to really know them. Another way to say this is that if you hear something about someone, you start to dislike them. Because of what you heard, you never find out the truth. In reality, most people either don’t care about finding the truth or don’t want to hear it.
I most definitely agree with this quote. Like most people have said, a lot of this pertains to high schoolers. If there is a rumor, most people will believe it without ever realizing the truth. Because they believe the rumor, and if they don't like it but still believe it, they hate that person and never get over it.
In William Golding’s Lord of The Flies, this quote is pretty close to correct. The boys get deserted on an island, but none of them really know each other or their pasts. Maybe there wasn’t any “rumors”, precisely., but there was quite a bit of hate. Jack automatically hates Ralph for being the leader, and he never wants to talk to Ralph and to get to know him. Simon talked to Ralph about Ralph’s past, I believe... Arthur C. Clarke's short story, “Hate”, is a lot better use of this quote. Tibor hates the Russians for killing his brother and family, so when he finds a Russian sputnik, he thinks he has to punish the Russian inside for what they did to him. He knows that whoever was inside had nothing to do with his hurt, but he didn’t care.
Both these stories can relate to Charles Caleb Colton’s quote, "We hate some persons because we do not know them; and will not know them because we hate them.” Tibor in Arthur C. Clarke’s story, “Hate”, hated the Russians, and killed an innocent “little girl.” He hated the Russians, so he never got to talk to or get to know the girl. Jack, in William Golding’s Lord of the Flies hates Ralph because he was leader, and Jack wanted to be. Jack automatically hated Ralph, and therefore never got to know him. Hate is so strong an emoton, that it makes you miss out on knowing a lot of awesome people.

  17. This quote, "We hate some persons because we do not know them; and will not know them because we hate them" can mean a few things according to different people. I think it means that you just plain out judging someone for no reason. You have yet to meet them, talk to them, and find out there background. you just go right ahead and say what you want about them and then you start to believe your own lies you say about them.
I agree with this quote because it makes a good point on how people are being judged no matter what they do. I honestly think people from our school can learn a lot from this quote, seeing how it happens in our school the most.
In The Lord of the Flies, this quote can relate to it. Everyone is being hated for no reason. They're being judged by the way they're dressed, but they cant exactly help it when they are stranded on an island for who knows how long. The leaders are being hated just for taking control of everyone.
In the short story, "Hate" I think the quote fits better for it. In this story, people have a reason to 'hate' everyone and judge them. They've spent more time together and know each other better.
I think that both of these stories have use for the quote, "We hate some persons because we do not know them; and will not know them because we hate them". More for the short story though because in The Lord of the Flies, Jack only hates Ralph because he is the leader of the group. In the short story, "Hate", they have more of a reason to judge and hate.

  18. Charles Caleb Colton said, “we hate some persons because we do not know them; and will not know them because we hate them.” This quote means that people hate people that they don’t know. People never get the chance to know someone; therefore they will most likely hate them. I like this quote because I agree with it and it very true!

This quote is interpreted into the novel Lord of the Flies, written by William Golding and the short story ‘Hate’ which is written by Arthur C. Clarke. In Lord of the Flies the quote is shown mostly by Jack. Jack hates Ralph because he never gets the chance to know him, he is mad that he isn’t elected chief. Jack also demonstrated this on Piggy, he never gave either of them a chance. In the short story ‘hate’, the main character Tibor never gave the Russian a chance to survive. If he knew that it was just a young girl, he most likely would not have tried to torture and kill her. He was so focused on getting revenge for the Russians attacking his town of Budapest and he let his hate get in the way of his common sense. These are two prime examples of the quote by Charles Caleb Colton.

“We hate some persons because we do not know them; and will not know them because we hate them.” This was said by Charles Caleb Colton. Hate can cause people to do many dumb things. If you got to know someone, you might actually find that you could be good friends. Arthur C. Clarke and William Golding demonstrated this quote very well in their writing. Tibor and Jack were perfect examples.

  19. The quote, "We hate some persons because we do not know them; and will not know them because we hate them." Is from Charles Caleb Colton, and it is very accurate. There are so many people that dislike others for absolutely no apparent reason. People hate others that they have never even said a word to. We judge people from appearance. And sometimes people are judged because of who they talk to or who is in their family. If someone is related to or hangs out with certain people, it certainly does not mean that they are just like them. Everyone is their own person.

Jealousy is often a big part in hatred. Although, I don’t believe that is always pure hatred in this case. Since hate is such a strong emotion, jealousy couldn’t cause this. A lot of people get jealous of others and never admit it. They will just say bad things about them all the time. Confident people don’t get jealous very often. Therefore, jealousy is a sign of insecurity. I think that everyone should love the way they are. Nobody is put on this world to please others. Your own happiness is basically all that matters. You cant please everyone forever.

Lord of the Flies BY William Golding shows this quote well. For example, Ralph is hated by Jack throughout the entire story. Jack didn’t like him from day one, and he didn’t even know him then. I’m not positive why, but that’s the entire point of Colton’s quote.

Nobody is born with hatred for others. It all develops over time. I think the way you are raised plays a big part in this. If you are raised in an unhappy home, then you may not grow up to be the nicest person. But if you grow up in a happy household with positive people, you will most likely be the same way. But that’s not always the case. Overall, people should always do their best to not judge people as quickly as they do. Always give others a chance.

  20. “we hate some persons because we don’t know them; and will not know them because we hate them”.
I believe that “hate” could blind us. What I mean by that is that hate could keep us from meeting people and finding knew friends. We wont be able to know someone just because of what we heard. Colton’s quote is very good and very well written, I think it’s an awesome quote. And like I said before, hate makes us blind. In today’s world for example, we might have like a best friend that lives in Iraq and since we “hate” them we will never be able to know them other than the fact that they are dumb!
In story “hate” the russain lady had a tape recorder that busted the tabor character because of what he said.

  21. "We hate some people because we do not know them: and will not know them because we hate them." ~Charles Caleb Colton

When Charles C. Clark wrote this quote because he was trying to send the message that we should not hate people based on what people have told you or apearance. You should get to know them first because hate can cloud your judgment. If you based liking some one on hear say you wouldn't like anyone. hate can prevent you from doing the right thing and getting to know some one that could actually be a great person.

The message Charles Caleb Colton was trying to send, I completely agree with it. The rerason I agree with it because when i was a new student here last year everyone hated me and that made them not want to get to know me for a really long time but when they heard good stuff about me they decied to see how i was like and now we are best friends. Hate can stop you from having good relationships with people.

In Eglish class we also read the short story "Hate" by Charles C. Clark and it has a lot of examples why hate can be a very bad thing. An example is the main character Tribor claims to hate ALL Russians because his brother was killed by Russians. 22. Charles Caleb Colton once said "We hate some persons because we do not know them; and will not know them because we hate them." This quote is correct in many if not all situations of dislike or hate. Jealousy is one main cause of hate, another main cause is probably political and or religious beliefs.

Imagine if Germany did not just invade Poland out of no where. If Germany did not have a leader who hated the Jewish people, there probably would have not been a holocaust, which would have saved many peoples life. Many people today still hate for no reason, and I believe this quote is correct and if people tried to get to know the person they hate, a lot of wars would be prevented.

There are many forms of hate in the novel Lord of The Flies. The main cause of hate is jealousy, over who is the chief of the group, between Jack and Ralph. Jack hates Ralph because he is chief and Jack is not. When Roger kills Piggy is a form of hate in my opinion. Roger kills Piggy without even getting to know who he is. Roger just hates him for no reason.

In the book "Hate", written by Arthur C. Clarke the protagonist Tibor is not such a good guy. Tibor hates every Russian because the Russian army invaded his hometown and killed his brother. Tibor tries to get revenge by killing the astronaut, who is not even Russian it is a 18-19 year old girl.

The book Lord of the Flies written by William Goulding, and the short story "Hate" written by Arthur C. Clark, both show a lot of hate. The forms of hate are both similar and different. In Lord of the Flies Jack shows a form of hate towards Ralph of jelousy over power. In "Hate" Tibor kills someone because he believes they are Russian. The persons ends up not even being Russian, Tibor automatically hates the person because of this.

I like that you talked about the Holocaust and how Germany hated the Polish which led to death. I liked the way you described that Tibor wanted his revenge on the Russians.

  23. Charles Caleb Colton once said, “We hate some persons because we do not know them; and will not know them because we hate them." I think this quote means that sometimes we hate people that we don’t know a single thing about. The reason we hate them is not based on our own opinions but the opinions that others have of them. People can hate others for no apparent reason other than race, religion, political views and ethnicities. And because they are like that, people will never not hate them.I think this quote is a very accurate statement. A lot of people hate each other without even knowing each other.

Charles Caleb Colton’s quote fits very well in Arthur C. Clarke's short story, ‘Hate’. In the short story the protagonist, Tibor, finds a Russian space shuttle with a Russian in it. Tibor hates the Russians because they killed his brother. So, when Tibor found this space shuttle with a Russian trapped inside Tibor tried to prevent the rescue attempts for the person trapped inside the space shuttle. Tibor kept yelling at her and cursing her. The person turned out to be an eighteen year old girl, who actually recorded everything that happened. The girl died.

This quote can also fit in William Golding’s novel Lord of the Flies. In Lord of the Flies a group of boys are stranded on an island. A boy named Jack hates Ralph because Ralph was voted chief and he was not. Another example in this book is some boys hate Piggy. The boys hate Piggy because he was knowledgeable, but he couldn't help the other boys because of his asthma. The boys would yell at him and pick on him about things he couldn't do anything about.

“We hate some persons because we do not know them; and will not know them because we hate them." was stated by Charles Caleb Colton. This quote implies that people hate people for no reason and people would rather keep hating them then getting to know them.

  25. Charles Caleb Colton once said ""We hate some persons because we do not know them; and will not know them because we hate them." This quote means exactly what it says. People hate each other because they don't know each other. When you don't get to know someone you might just hate them for what you see them do. They might come out "annoying" or "bad" to you. This is because you don't really know them, and when you hate someone you don't want to get to know them.
We never give never people chances. I completely agree with this quote.I think everyone hates others whether they realize it or not, and everyone can admit to it. I know I can. I have noticed many people say mean things about another person and hate them because they don't really know them. It's not right. Before bullying someone you should get to know them.
In William Golding Lord of the Flies, the boys tend to hate Piggy. They are not nice to him and judge him on his image or what he first acts like to people. No one really gets to know him. In Arthur C. Clarkes 'Hate', Tibor is full of hate also. He lets the Russian girl in the vessel die because he hates the Russians. This girl did nothing wrong to him, but because of her appearance and origin of being Russian he hates her.
All humans are mean to eachother everyday. Sometimes we notice when we say mean things, and sometimes we don't. We don't realize that people have alot more to them than we think. Just an appearence of a person can make someone else hate them. You never no, they might be just like you and could get along great with you. People need to really think about others before they judge and hate them.

  26. Charles Caleb Colton once stated, “We hate some persons because we don’t know them; and we will never know them because we hate them.” What Colton was trying to get across is pretty much that it’s easy to hate someone that you don’t know. If you took the time to get to know the person that you “hate”, you may just understand the reason that a person acts a certain way. This is an extremely true statement that I completely agree with and can personally relate to. Some of the stories we’ve read in class have also supported Colton’s statement.

William Golding’s novel, Lord of the Flies definitely relates to this statement. In the Lord of the Flies, Jack and Ralph are perfect examples. Jack starts to hate Ralph after the rest of the boys vote Ralph to be chief, even though Jack is slightly older than Ralph. After that Jack was pretty sure that he hated Ralph because Ralph had the power that Jack wanted. And by the end Jack was ready to go and kill Ralph with the help of his fellow hunters. In “Hate” by Arthur C. Clarke, the quote is illustrated through Tibor’s attempts to balk the rescue of the person in the sputnik.
Tibor hated blindly, he saw the Russian writing on the sputnik and assumed he hated the person within the sputnik. Tibor was bitter over the death of his brother when the Russians invaded Budapest, his hometown. But after the damage was done and the sputnik was pulled onto the beach and the sputnik was opened, Tibor felt horrible. Tibor had just killed a young girl, and the best part everything Tibor had told the girl (about how he was going to kill her) was caught on tape.

So it really never pays to hate someone, especially if you have no idea what they’ve been through. Tibor’s case he wished that he never hated that little girl, a little too late and couldn’t make up for what he did, and in the case of Jack and Ralph it was almost too late.

  27. The quote "We hate some persons because we do not know them; and will not know them because we hate them," was written by Charles Caleb Colton. In other words it means that we will not know some people because we hate them and we will never know them because we hate them. This is happening in life and it is not good for people to do this sort of thing.

I agree with this quote because these sorts of things are happening in life. A lot of us do this in life. We say that we don’t, or we wouldn’t, but if you watch people you can see forms of it happing all around us. For an example of this is like saying that the new kid is a weirdo and saying we hate them because they are weird. You do not know that and you will never know that because you hate them.

If people talked to one and another more, I think that people would not hate as many people. I think that this would be true if people did not judge people so quickly. This would lead to people having more friends. I also think this would make a more peaceful world. There would not be so many people that bully other people in life.

In the book, Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, there is a lot of hate. One example is that they hate and fear the beast. So they never exactly know what the beast is. In the short story, “Hate”, the main character hates the Germans for killing his brother and attacking the town. He shows his hate by finding the space shuttle on the bottom of the ocean and preventing the girl inside from being saved.

These are some of the things that I have read and seen about hate. I think that hate really does get in the way of getting to know people. Overall I do agree with the quote.

  28. There are many ways and examples in which humans hate each other. The quote above states "We hate some persons because we do not know them; and will not know them because we hate them.". I agree with quote because as humans, hate can often blind us and makes us see only what we think we know.

Hate is a powerful thing, as it can cause humans to be blinded, driven, and bashful. Irrationality causes us to not understand each simply because we see what we think of them. An example of this in William Golding’s Lord Of The Flies is Piggy, because the other boys hated him so much that they never even got to know his name. Even when Piggy dies they do not know his name, because they were too busy making fun of him calling him Piggy that they never actually learned his name, or even cared to. He is often ignored as well when he means nothing but good intentions for the group.

As well, in Arthur C. Clarke’s short story “Hate”, Tibor is bitter and vengeful because of his hometown being bombed by the Russians. When he finds the space capsule while pearl diving, he decides to stop the rescues and make sure that the Russian astronaut inside dies due to lack of oxygen. When the capsule is finally dragged onto shore, Tibor find that the person inside the space capsule was actually a woman who had nothing to do with the bombing of his hometown, dead inside as he had previously hoped and anticipated due to his hats towards the Russians.

In conclusion, hate can often cloud our vision and make us do things we regret, which can be seen in Lord of the Flies and “Hate”. Hate and ignorance go hand in hand, and we often feel remorse for our actions after we commit acts of hate. It just shows us how much like animals humans can still be when blinded by emotions, especially anger and hate.
