Imagine that you are stuck on a deserted island, much like the characters in William Golding's Lord of the Flies. What three things do you wish you would have with you in this situation? Explain what three things would be most important to you and why they are important. For example, is there a certain item that you would want that would help ensure survival, or is there anything else you can think of that would help make life on a deserted island a little more comfortable/enjoyable?
Be creative in your responses, and of course, be sure to follow the rules of standard written English. Your responses must be at least 200 words. This post will be due Friday, 9/21, by 3PM.
Three things I would have with me on a deserted island are a knife, the ultimate tool for survival, a backpack with the bungee cord attached to it, and a digital camera. This is depending on what is on the island, for example if it had enough food,or vegetation. I would you the knife from everything to shelter making, weapon/tool making, fire making, skinning, and of course eating. The backpack would be used to carry important items around like kindling or food. The bungee cord would be used to help create shelter (to tie together limbs for support) or to tie things up in a high place so animals can not get things like food. The camera would be used to create a “video journal” about how I got stuck on the island, who I am, and what I have been through. After the camera dies I would take out the memory card to preserve the journal, and then use either the lens or the flash piece to create a fire. Life on the island would not exactly be luxurious but I would be able to survive for quite some time.

DeleteThe three things I would want on a deserted island is a life supply of food, a life supply of refreshments and a friend. The reason I would want food is so I could survive and I wouldn’t be hungry. The reason I would want water is that so I don’t get thirsty and shrivel up and die and I shall never be parched. And my last thing I would want is a friend because it would suck being by yourself I mean I would probably go crazy anyways but it would be better if you weren’t alone. I think that if I had a friend it would be less lonely and I would probably want someone funny to be with me like Mr. T and he could help me study English while were stranded I think that would be very fun and he could tell me about his past and he could be my favorite teacher. The thing is I would probably never survive on a island for a long time because it would suck and I would die from hunger. The last thing I would want is never to be stuck on an island because it would stink.

DeleteThere are three things I would take with me to the desert island. The first thing I would take is a pocket knife with a serrated edge, so it could be used for sawing as well as cutting or stabbing. The serrated edge could be used for cutting sticks and such to make a makeshift shelter. It could also be jammed into or tied to the end of a stick to make a spear for fishing. The second item I would take with me is a cooking pot. The pot could be used to cook plants like fiddle heads to make them edible, purify water, prepare teas and stews, and could even be used as a formidable helmet at certain times. It may seem like a stupid item, but there aren't many ways to make a non-flammable container like a pot that could be used in its place. The final item I would bring with me is a compound bow with arrows, as it could be used for hunting and protection. Some may choose a gun over a bow, but arrows and reusable unlike bullets. I am also fairly good with a bow, and archery could be a relaxing pass time that could make isolated life on a desert island just a little bit less boring.

DeleteIf I was stuck on a deserted island, I wish I could have a Bible, my grandma, and a shield. I would want to have a Bible so I could read it and apply what it says. The Bible would comfort me and is essential for my spiritual survival. Without my Bible, I would go crazy. Reading the Bible would help me get God’s thinking on matters. If there were any natives on the island, I could read the Bible to them and help them understand what it says, and then they could apply what it says.
ReplyDeleteI would want to have my grandma with me so I wouldn’t be lonely. My grandma is smart and knows how to do a lot about things; such as what to do when you get hurt and how to cook. My grandma would help me do things, such as get food and make a tent. If I didn’t have my grandma with me, I don’t know what would happen to me! Eventually, I would hope my grandma would help me make a raft and escape the island.
I would want a shield because it would protect me from animals or any dangerous natives living on the island. If the natives had any spears or arrows the shield would block it. A shield could also be used as an umbrella to shield me from the rain.
Having a Bible, my grandma, and a shield would definitely come in handy when being on a stranded island.

If I was stuck on a deserted island the three things I would take would be, my dog brandy, my purple multi tool (the key to all survival anywhere on earth), and my brother. These three things are important because they hold the key to my survival. My dog brandy is important because she is very good at chasing down animals and killing them. She also can sniff out any sort of food you want. She is also important because she is comforting and her fur is very soft and she would probably help me keep my sanity. My purple multi tool is important because every Surviroman, Man vs. wild, Dual survival, or Mantracker show I have ever watched someone has had a multi tool, and they used it in a million different ways. They used it to make shelter and get food and even sometimes to get water. The third and final thing I would take would be my brother. The only reason I would take my brother (believe me I wouldn’t want to) is for survival reasons. What if there happened to be violent natives on the island? He would be the one to be sacrificed to make peace with the natives. I think I would survive on a deserted island.

DeleteIf I was deserted on an island I would like to have as many things as possible but the three main things that I would like to have are my medicine, Swiss Army knife, and a friend. I want my medicine so that I’m healthy and could work on the island to seek rescue. My medicine will help keep my lungs going and help me not have other health problems. I will always need to be working so we could build a boat and go out to sea in hope of being rescued. A Swiss Army knife is a major help because it is useful in many ways. We could make a fire by having dry tinder and striking the knife blade off of a rock and it would make a spark and the tinder would light. We could use the fire for warmth if the island is cold at night and it can signal that we need to be rescued. The knife could also be used to make a spear that is made of a strong piece of wood, the knife and a strong piece of grass or a small sapling to bind the knife on the wood. We could use the spear to kill any animals that we see. The spear can also be used to spear fish in the nearby ocean or in the river. Having a friend is a help because we could always be together so that we are not in danger of animals or the small group of natives. A friend could fish or hunt and I could be keeping the fire going. A friend also would be easier to be rescued with because you have more power to build a boat faster and you can paddled faster in the boat. A friend would need to trustworthy or they may try to hurt you or kill you so that they can be rescued easier.

ReplyDeleteMy knife, like everyone else, is used for hunting and just surviving. It's a great tool for surivival. It's great for stabbing, for skinning, just for everything.
I would need my best friend (no names) just to keep me entertained. I would get horribly lonely if I was by myself, and she/he could also help me capture animals for food.
My blanket? For survival? So it's not the BEST tool out there, but it would keep me warm at nights, and might also be a good tool for catching animals. And if I got hurt, if I had to, I could cut it up for bandages.
By the time we figured out how to build a fire, and then started on building a raft, we'd be a couple of seriously tired kids. But I have faith we could make it. I'm pretty smart at building and maintaining fires, and my friend is good with wood and boats. We'd made it.
Amber, I think that with little help you would survive. But Who the the best friends that you will not name? Is it you little sis?:P
DeleteIf I were to get stuck on a deserted island I'd want to have my best friend (does my friend get to bring three things because if so I'll make sure we don't bring that same thing), my Swiss Army knife,and my iPod with a battery that never dies (I'd love to have a battery that never dies).
ReplyDeleteI'd bring my best friend with me to keep me from getting lonely. And me being my clumsy self would end up getting hurt sooner rather than later, and it'd be helpful to have someone to make sure you're not going to die because you're naturally clumsy.
I'd need my Swiss Army knife because I could use it to make shelter, hunt, and it'd be a major help in general. Also cut tinder and make a fire for warmth and possibly rescue (I'm assuming that I still have my glasses and can use them to focus the sunlight).
I'd bring my iPod with me because if a don't I'll go crazy!(need my music) My friend would probably get tried of me suddenly breaking into High School Musical and whatever was popular on the radio before we got stuck on the island. And if we had a sudden break of luck, and suddenly get service or WiFi (I know highly doubtful but ya never know) we could call for help.
But after that hope goes away we'd start to build a raft and possibly get rescued at sea by a passing ship (of hopefully nice people :)) But I'm sure we'd make it.
If I got stuck on a deserted island, I would want to have one of my friends, a knife, and a lighter. I would have one of my friends to keep me company and help me do work on the island. One of us could keep a fire going, while the other could hunt, fish, and gather food for us. I think that I could survive on an island if I had all of these things.
ReplyDeleteAnother thing I would take is a knife. A knife could be used for many things like hunting, trapping, building a shelter and many other important things. If you killed an animal (probably with the knife) you would have to skin and clean the animal with the knife. Also it would cut the vines so I could tie my shelter together.
The final thing I would take with me is a lighter. I think this is pretty obvious because it’s an easy way to get a fire started, and even if our fire burns out we can start it again using the lighter. This would ensure that the fire was going at all times, which would increase our chances of getting rescued by a boat or plane nearby.
Being stranded on an island all by yourself sounds kind of terrifying, I mean, it would be nice for awhile if the island you were on was pretty. But if I ever got stranded on an island by myself I would probably go crazy, so of course I’d have to bring along one of my friends. I guess I would choose Katie she is a little more outdoorsy than Katera is so she would be crucial in helping me survive as well. Also if there was some sort of violent creepy animal beast like thing that lived on the island; I can run faster than Kate.
ReplyDeleteBesides having someone to talk too, I would totally bring my pillow pet. I mean come on, it’s a pillow AND a pet. It would be perfect for sleeping, I’m going to need a lot of sleep if I have to try and survive on my own. After I’d make an awesome shelter and mattress out of leaves, my pillow pet would fit right in.
The third thing I would want with me on a deserted island would be my handy, dandy Girl Scout pocket knife. This knife is hardcore, and I would need it to cut through branches, and kill small animals for dinner. It’s a pretty cool gadget, it has two blades one for sawing things, and another for slicing. It would make surviving a piece of cake.

A G.P.S would be very heelpful i do believe. Or i would love to have a compass at least. i would u either one of them to find my way around the island in search of food and fresh water to drink. I would then hope to find some kinda shelter for saftey reasons. and for my third and final wish i would wish i had three more things i could have with me and that would be 1... lots of food and a house with electrisity and a fridge. Also i would like a nice gun to shooot animals or fish out of the water because i dont have enoff paitentce for fishing!!!And one more thing that i would have with me is a grant of three more things i would have with me!
So i would have a my best friends with me to chilll and lots of music to party too. and lots of wild life to hunt!!! And for the last but not least final thing i would have with me would be a........... to be continued! adios

ReplyDeleteI am basically the least outdoorsy person I know. So if I was stranded on a deserted island I would want a kayak, Remington, and box of matches. I would have no need for a knife because I wouldn't be able to kill anything.
ReplyDeleteI would bring a box of matches that way I can light a fire and keep warm. I can also cook food over the fire and use the fire to signal a plane or other people that might save me. Of course I would have to find some wood first to burn but I'm sure I could manage that.
I would also bring my girl Remington. I would bring her because she is smart and could build me a house and find me food. She could probably use a sharp rock to kill animals. Another perk of bringing Remington is I can run faster than her! So if we were being attack the crazy animal would get her first.
I would want a kayak so I could explore around the island. I could also fish out of the kayak. After a few days of the island I'll probably get hungry and have to paddle all the way back to the mainland. It would be very tiresome but well you only live once and I would surely die if I stayed on the island too long.

DeleteThere are three things that I would want to help me survive if I was stuck on an island. The three things would be a sharp knife, a satellite phone, and enough food to last me a year. I would survive, if I had these three things.
ReplyDeleteThe first thing I would need would be a satellite phone. I would use the phone to call for help. I would say that I am stuck on an island and need to be rescued. I would tell my coordinates, so they could find me.
The next thing would I would want is a sharp knife. This I would use on a number of things. The first thing I would do is make spikes on the end of some nice long thick sticks. After I got enough I would find a nice shaded spot and stab the spikes in to the ground. I would then build a shelter using them for supports. Also, if my food supply runs out, I would use them as spears to hunt with.
The last thing that I would want is enough food to last me a year. I would use this while I was waiting to be rescued. If I ever ran out of food then I would have to go and hunt.
These are the three things that I would want if I were stranded on a deserted Island. These three things would ensure my survival. I am sure that with them I would survive on a deserted Island by myself.

DeleteIf I was stranded on an island and I could have 3 things those things would be a knife a fishing pole and a backpack to carry around firewood and supplies I find on the island. First day I would take some time to find a place to set up shelter and start a fire. Then later in the afternoon I would go fishing with the fishing pole. After the first night i would find the highest point on the island and build a signal fire. I will have a majority of the firewood I find stored up there so the fire can burn for a while. After a few more days of not being rescued I would need to find a freshwater spring, this spring will be very helpful in survival. I would just keep repeating the cycle of fishing and gathering items until I am rescued. Depending on the location of the island i might be there for some time. Life on the island would not be great but I would find a way to survive. Hopefully a boat or an airplane would see my signal fire and come and save me from the island.

ReplyDeleteI feel that if i had my horse it would be easier to get around and travel. I would be able to get away from and wild animals chasing me. Atticus is also so nice and pretty. He would keep me company when I am about ready to kill Janai!
I also would choose to have a knife on the island with me. I would choose to have a knife with me because it would make building a shelter and getting food easier. There are many different ways that a knife would come in handy on a deserted island.
I would also bring Janai. I would bring Janai because no one else would take her anywhere. Her mom kicked her out of the house, her brother hates her, and she dropped out of high school. So by me choosing her to be on the deserted island can change her life around. JUST KIDDING!! Janai would help me build a hut make a raft big enough for her, me, and my horse. then we would get the heck off that stupid island where i almost killed her!
