The people of deposit come up with so many ways that they say how deposit came to be. But this is the true story. I was there, i was a dinosaur. I know exactly how it started. So all these other stories, don’t listen to them. There dumb.
At the beginning of time, when dinosaurs roamed the earth there was a mighty dinosaur named Michael Jackson. He was super cool and super fine. He got all the ladies. He was purple and blue and he painted his toenails all sorts of different glowing colors.
He searched for the perfect girlfriend for years. he went to all the surrounding towns and went through all the ladies testing them to see who’s love was loyal. He liked being the center of attention. Until he found his love. He traveled 60 miles this day and finally brought his lady home for his family to meet.
She was the finest lady in all the land and she was awesome. She cooked and cleaned and even made cookies everyday for when her husband came home from work. One day they were making pizza, tossing them up. Catching them. Putting cheese and pepperoni on them. They were on their 28th pizza and micheal through the pizza up alittle high and it stuck to the ceiling.
They thought this was the coolest thing. They thought it was the coolest piece of artwork they had ever seen. Micheal called up all of his friends that day and invited them over for a party that night. Atleast 26 dinosaurs showed up. They all came into the kitchen and they immediatly left and went to the grocery and bought all of the stuff to make these pizzas.
They all went home and put as many pizzas as they could on the ceiling. Even more people found out about this creation and everyone in the dinosaur city did it. The pizza piled up so high that a new town was formed and it was called Deposit.

Post 10: Myth Making

For this blog, you will be working with a partner in creating a myth about Deposit. You can come up with a story about how the town was created or any heroic figures who may have been a part of Deposit's ancient history. Use the myth of the Monkey King from our class readings and Gene Luen Yang's American Born Chinese for examples.

After writing the myth, you will create a graphic version of the story in at least three comic book frames. Artwork is due Monday, 3/4/13.

Your myth should be at least 300-400 words, and must be posted by 3pm Friday (**signed by both partners**).

Good luck!

Post 9: Being a Newcomer

Hello all,

Next week, we will be starting Gene Luen Yang's graphic novel, American Born Chinese. The main plot-line concerns Jin, a young Chinese American boy, who moves to a new town and tries to fit in with those around him. In order to do this, he undergoes a series of changes, leading him on a journey of self-discovery and self-acceptance.

For this week's blog, you are being asked to reflect on a time in your life when you were a newcomer. Describe, in detail, a time in your life when you've been put into a new situation. How did you deal with it? What, if anything, did you do to fit in?  Provide context.

Responses should be at least 300-400 words and are due by 3 p.m. Friday, 2/15.

        I chose the song over by Blake Shelton because it reminds me of the part in Much ado about Nothing in act three when claudio shames hero at their wedding. i also picked the song someday by nickleback because it is like the part in the play when claudio realizes that hero was faithful and that it was his fault that she died.  the song over  is about a relationship being over in an instant. that is how it relates to the begining of act three.that song someday has a lesson in it and that lesson is to not shame the person you love you it will come back to bit you in the end and they wont want to go back with you. in the case of Much ado about nothing completely the opposite happens. hero wants to get back with claudio and they end up getting married.

        out of the two songs that i pick only the song someday would also relate to benedick ad beatrice. that song relates to them because about half way through the play,right after claudio shames hero, benedick says he will do anything to be with beatrice. in the song someday someone is willing to do anything for the person they want to be with. so beatrice tell benedick to kill his best friend. so he goes to challenge claudio but they dont fight because that is when claudio realizes that hero was actually faithful.

Post 8: Much Ado About Music

This week, you will be creating a new post.

Select at least one or two songs that you think relate to themes, characters, or conflicts in Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing. Provide links to the songs you pick. Explain the meaning of each song and how it relates to ideas in the play. Consider the themes of Love, Deception, and Betrayal, the situations of the two main couples (Benedick and Beatrice; Claudio and Hero), and the villainy of Don John. Be specific in your explanations.

Posts are to be at least 300-400 words and are due by 3 p.m. Friday, 2/1/13.

Post 7: The Feats of a Lion

In Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing, a messenger declares that the young soldier, Claudio, has done "in the figure of a lamb, the feats of a lion" (Act 1 Scene 1). Write a blog about a young person who has accomplished much in his or her life who you personally admire (musicians, actors, actresses, fellow students, etc.). Address the six central questions to a news story (Who? What? Where? When? How? Why?). Be descriptive by providing specific information. Provide links to any sources you use.

Responses are to be at least 300 words, and are due by Friday, 1/11/13.

Post 6: Sonnet Parody

Recalling the notes from our introduction to Comedy, a parody is a style of comedy that mocks a subject through imitation. A good example would be Weird Al Yankovic's song 'Smells Like Nirvana,' which is a parody of Nirvana's 'Smells Like Teen Spirit.' In this case, the song by Weird Al imitates the instruments and lyrics of Nirvana's original to a comedic effect.

For this week's blog, you will be posting a parody of Shakespeare's 'Sonnet 18'

Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate;
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer's lease hath all too short a date;
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimm'd;
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance or nature's changing course untrimm'd;
But thy eternal summer shall not fade,
Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow'st;
Nor shall Death brag thou wander'st in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou grow'st:
So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.

Your sonnet must be in iambic pentameter (10 syllables per line) and 14 lines long (3 quatrains and a couplet) with the following rhyme scheme ABAB CDCD EFEF GG.

Here is an example:

A Sonnet for Sherbert

Shall I compare thee to a chocolate cake?
Thou art more fruity and more exotic.
Good cake is often difficult to make
Especially for me, I'm moronic...
Sometime I will find a good recipe
And make the best cake in the whole wide world,
But until then we'll have to wait and see
And to sherbert land I will be hurled.
But my dreams of chocolate will never fade
With sherbert ready in my freezer,
It is easier to get delayed
If only making cake were easier!
So long as I continue on the path
I'll eat sherbert, and await chocolate's wrath.

Sonnets are due by 3pm, Friday 12/14.
